As you probably know with Pengis coming, I’ve marked all my current pets as budget pets, and set all prices accordingly (some were higher priced than others).
I am a little worried those who are new coming to see pengis will see all the other pets and assume they are up to the same standard as Pengis are.
While I’ve always done my best with my pets, it did take me some time to understand how traits work in other creators’ breedables, and because of this my budget pet traits are a little simplistic.
I made all my own meshes with budget pets, and priced them with those who don’t have a lot of spare L$ laying around to keep in mind.
We have a great little community of people who enjoy these pets as they were meant to be enjoyed - just a bit of fun, fun to keep, breed, share etc, but they were never designed to be competitive in a market type setting. (We tried the market thing, it just didn’t work out.)
Pengis on the other hand will be my first attempt in a long time at making a mainstream breedable pet, something that is meant to meet the expectations of breeders of other more popular pets.
It has a much more complex trait system, and limited pengis will be more valuable (ie, they wont given away in a one for every avatar system - they will come as seasonal drops). Prices will be more in line with other breedable pets.
I imagine I’m going to have to spend more time on pengis than budget pets as Pengi owners will have spent more. I don’t want to abandon the budget pets though, but they will likely get less love going forward.
That makes me a little sad, because I understand too well how expensive SL can be, and I’ve always been focused on making things for those with less.
I’m thinking of trying to get some idea of which of the budget pets are more popular, so I know which to spend more time on. Though it seems so far that flutterbugs and unicorns seem to be the most popular two.
While I don’t plan to retire any pets at this stage, but I am keenly aware that for the most part there hasn’t been new coats for many in a long while.
So, that’s my thoughts at this stage…
TL;DR:
- Worried that new people will have high expectations of budget pets.
- Worried that older people who enjoy the budget pets will get less time spent going forward.
- Probably overthinking things.
